Building Independence, Confidence, and Meaningful Relationships

Becoming an independent adult can be challenging. Whether you're struggling to find direction, manage your emotions, navigate relationships, establish boundaries, or take steps toward greater independence, you don't have to figure it all out alone.

This group is designed for young adults who want to develop the skills and confidence to navigate life's challenges while building a greater sense of personal responsibility, self-awareness, and independence.

Our group combines Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills with interpersonal process work, creating a supportive environment where participants can explore the challenges they're facing and learn practical ways to respond to them.

What to Expect

Each session provides opportunities for participants to share what they're experiencing in their lives, whether it's difficulty with family relationships, anxiety about the future, emotional overwhelm, challenges with motivation, or uncertainty about their next steps.

As the group facilitator, I help participants explore their experiences and identify DBT skills that may be useful in navigating their particular situations.

Through this process, participants develop skills in four core areas of DBT:

  • Mindfulness: Developing greater awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors so you can respond more intentionally.

  • Emotion Regulation: Learning to understand and manage difficult emotions without allowing them to dictate your choices.

  • Distress Tolerance: Building the ability to navigate uncomfortable situations and challenging emotions without becoming overwhelmed or avoiding them.

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Learning to communicate your needs, establish healthy boundaries, manage conflict, and develop more satisfying relationships.

A Different Kind of Group Experience

While learning DBT skills is central to the group, we also recognize the importance of meaningful interpersonal connection.

Participants are encouraged to share their personal experiences and learn from hearing how others navigate similar challenges. Rather than offering advice or attempting to solve one another's problems, group members practice listening, developing awareness, and remaining curious about their own experiences and those of others.

The goal is not to tell participants what they should do, but to help them develop the awareness, skills, and confidence to make their own decisions.

By combining structured DBT skills with opportunities for personal exploration, the group provides a space to practice becoming more independent while remaining connected to others.
