Building Awareness and Finding Your Own Way Forward
Life can become difficult when we find ourselves struggling with anxiety, depression, overwhelming emotions, or patterns in our relationships that seem to repeat despite our best efforts to change them. Sometimes we understand what is happening intellectually but still feel unable to move forward. Other times, we may be navigating a significant life transition, questioning who we are, or feeling disconnected from ourselves and the people around us. In our work together, we will create a relationship where you can explore these experiences openly, with curiosity and without judgment. I believe that meaningful change happens through genuine human connection, and that the relationship we develop is an important part of the therapeutic process. Rather than seeing you through the lens of a diagnosis, I want us to understand who you are as a whole person, how you have learned to navigate the world, and what may be getting in the way of living the life you want.
Our work will be grounded in Gestalt Therapy, which emphasizes awareness, authenticity, and the importance of relationships. Together, we will pay attention to what happens not only in your life outside of therapy, but also in the relationship between us. The ways we communicate, connect, experience emotions, and respond to one another can help us better understand patterns that may also be present in your other relationships. We may explore feelings that have been difficult to express, experiment with new ways of relating, or discover aspects of yourself that have been overlooked. I also incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which gives us practical tools for managing difficult emotions, navigating stressful situations, and communicating more effectively. By combining these approaches, we can develop a deeper understanding of your experience while also building skills that help you respond to life's challenges in ways that feel more intentional and effective.
Ultimately, I see therapy as something we create together. I bring my experience, training, and genuine interest in understanding you, while you bring your own experiences, perspectives, and knowledge of your life. Neither of us has all the answers, and our work is not about me telling you who you should be or how you should live. Instead, we will explore what is happening in your life, recognize the ways you may be getting stuck, and discover new possibilities for moving forward. Along the way, our relationship can become a place where you experience new ways of being understood, expressing yourself, and connecting with another person. My hope is that what we discover together will help you develop greater trust in yourself, build more meaningful relationships, and find a way of living that feels authentic to who you are.
Therapy Beyond the Office
Our work does not always have to happen sitting across from each other in an office. For those who are interested, we can meet in the Wissahickon Forest for walk-and-talk therapy, or find a place along the trail where we can sit and talk together. Drawing on my experience in Ecotherapy, we can use movement, the natural environment, and our awareness of what is happening around us as part of the therapeutic process. Walking together can create a different kind of space for conversation, while slowing down and sitting in the forest can help us notice experiences that may be harder to access in an office. Nature does not need to become the focus of our therapy; instead, it can become another part of the environment supporting our work together. Whether we are walking, sitting beside the trail, or meeting in my office, the heart of our work remains the same: creating a relationship where we can be curious about your experience, deepen your awareness, and discover new ways of connecting with yourself, other people, and the world around you.
